Bell ringers to raise funds to buy school supplies, clothes

It’s that time of year again: when families are busy purchasing backpacks, school supplies and new clothes for the coming school year.

It’s the first step we take in getting our students excited about school!

For the past 19 years the Department of Human Services (DHS) and Operation Helping Hand (OHH) have shared in that process by helping local low-income families purchase school supplies for their children.

This year, there is an abundance of families that are struggling to make ends meet. OHH and DHS have partnered with the Salvation Army to execute a special “school” bell ringing campaign to supplement their fund-raising efforts.

This weekend, Aug. 7, 8 and 9, from 9 a.m. to 6p.m, you will hear the familiar bells ringing at City Market in the Pagosa Country Center. Monetary donations from this campaign will be used to distribute vouchers, so families identified as needing assistance can purchase school supplies and clothing.

Those who wish to make monetary donations to the drive can also send them to Operation Helping Hand, Wells Fargo Bank, account number 6240417424, or Bank of the San Juans, account number 20014379.

Thank you for helping those in need in our community.
