All local contractors and subcontractors interested in participating in the recently-funded Highlands Lagoon Elimination project are encouraged to attend an informational session at the Pagosa Area Water and Sanitation District offices, 100 Lyn Avenue, at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 29.
The state has designated American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funding to PAWSD for this and related projects.
It is the desire of the district to keep as much of the federal funding as possible in the community and to employ as many local residents and businesses as possible during the course of this project in order to help stimulate the local economy. Given federal and state contract mandates and conditions of the stimulus funding, it is imperative that local contractors be as prepared as possible so as to be eligible for subcontracting on the project.
The informational meeting on July 29 will be facilitated by Project Engineer Patrick O’Brien and Project Manager Gregg Mayo. Topics will include bonding, registration of businesses as Small Businesses in Rural Areas (SBRAs), Disadvantaged Business Enterprise, Women-Owned Business Enterprise and Minority-Owned Business Enterprise designations and other topics pertinent to the project, bid documents and ultimate contract requirements.
