Lorraine Trenholm and Chad Haspels are teaming up for their co-exhibit of “Balance and Chaos in Nature: Drawing on the Essence of Our World,” which opens tonight at the PSAC Town Park Gallery.
The roots of Chad’s award-winning artistic background stem from an outdoor lifestyle complemented by a lifelong passion for the arts. Chad has produced multiple public sculptures for communities throughout the Rocky Mountain region. He also has hundreds of one-of-a -kind sculptures in collections throughout the U.S., Canada and Europe.
Lorraine’s artwork is displayed at the Elizabeth Rowley Gallery in Orleans, Mass.; Hope Gallery, Bristol, R.I.; and at her studio, by appointment. Lorraine’s paintings, drawings and pastels are in private collections, in the U.S. and abroad.
The artists’ reception will take place today from 5-7 p.m.
Home and Garden Tour
The PSAC board and membership would like to extend a sincere thank you to Jack and Janie Bard, Al and Marti Bledsoe, Bob and Lisa Scott, and Bob and Janis Moomaw for opening their lovely homes for our 2009 Home and Garden Tour. We also would like to thank the volunteer hosts and hostesses who greeted the many tour visitors and provided all of the delicious and delectable hors d’oeuvres and desserts. We appreciate everyone who participated on this year’s tour; you have made our 2009 Home and Garden Tour such a successful and fun event!
A pair of clip-on, amber shaded sunglasses with wire frames was found on Sunday, July 12, at the Pagosa Springs Arts Council’s Home and Garden Tour at the Bard’s home on Cool Pines Drive. They may be picked up at Town Park Gallery Tuesday-Sunday from noon-4.
Summer Youth Art Camp
The PSAC Summer Youth Art Camp, taught by Sabine Baeckmann-Elge, will take place Aug. 3-21. We are looking forward to our second annual Birdhouse Public Art Project benefiting Habitat for Humanity of Archuleta County. Students will once again decorate birdhouses and the houses will be auctioned off at the Summer Youth Art Camp Exhibit. Time and place of the exhibit will be announced. In addition to the birdhouse project, students will learn watercolor techniques and explore three-dimensional design. The Art Camp will be held from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday through Friday, Aug. 3-21 in the Arts and Crafts Room of the community center. Call PSAC 264-5020 to register and pay for the class.
The PSAC Gallery in Town Park is open Tuesday through Sunday, noon to 4 p.m. You can also visit our Web site at www.pagosa-arts.com for additional information.
Members of the Pagosa Springs Photo Club will present an exhibit at the PSAC Gallery, opening Sept. 17. Members can find more about the exhibit on the Web site: www.photo-artiste.com/PSPCexhibit.html
The club is in recess during the summer months. It meets on the second Wednesday of the month from September through May. Regular meetings are held in the Arts and Crafts Room at the community center from 6 to 9 p.m.
The photo club is an excellent resource for learning new ideas and techniques through the monthly programs and interaction with members. In addition to scheduled programs and critiques, the club also provides activities such as field trips and sponsored exhibits. Nonmembers are eligible to participate in the upcoming PSAC exhibit by paying membership dues for the 2009-2010 club season.
Whether you are a beginner looking to improve your photography, or an accomplished photographer who wishes to share their experience and knowledge with others, join us for the coming year. Membership rates are $20 for individual, $30 for family, and $10 for student. For further information, contact Barbara Conkey at 731-6877 or at email@example.com.
The 2009 Pagosa Country Calendars have been marked down and are now for sale at half price at the Town Park Gallery. Call 264-5020 to place your order.
Plein Air Painters
Plein Air Painters meet at 10 a.m. on the third Thursday of the month at a predetermined location. On Aug. 20 we will meet at the Piedra River at U.S. 160. Drive west of Pagosa on U.S. 160, continue past the intersection of Colo. 151. As you approach the Piedra River crossing, turn right on the road just before the bridge. Call Jean Smith, 264-6647, if you need more information.
Painters who work in any media are welcome. It’s a wonderful opportunity to share tips, ideas and resources. If the weather is nice, we paint outdoors. If the weather is bad we will paint in the community center Arts and Crafts Room. Please keep in mind that turpentine-based painting materials can not be used in the Community Center.
The Pagosa Springs Arts Council sponsors and manages workshops in the Arts and Crafts Room at the community center. From the outset, the Arts Council has been a partner and supporter of the center. Call PSAC at 264-5020 to register for any of the classes and pre-registration is required.
