Donnie Avery Smith of Pagosa Springs was the youngest of 11 children born to Herbert and Agnes Avery. Donnie was born May 27, 1940, in Yell County, Ark. She slipped away quietly on June 10, 2009.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Herbert and Agnes Avery; her four sisters — Reatha Mae (who died in infancy), Delanie Humphries, Delpha Owens, and Daisy Waldron. Also preceding her were her five brothers — Virgil Avery, Vernon Avery, Veo (Buck) Avery, Alfred Avery, Vester Avery; and several nephews and nieces including nephew Kenny Waldron, who lived with the family for a short time.
Donnie’s survivors include her husband of 50 years, David Smith; her daughter Debbie Fultz, and husband Clay, and their daughter Malinda; and her son, Donald Smith, all of Pagosa Springs, Colo.; her granddaughter, Amber Smith and great-granddaughters Kaeley Walters and Kendra Martinez, of Durango, Colo.; her niece, Carol Waldron Redmon, who came to live with the family at age 11; and husband Charles, of Mulberry, Ark., and her son, J.D. Shrum, his wife Mandy and daughter Kerra and newborn son, Brandon, of Booneville, Ark., and daughter Carrie Shrum of Beaumont, Texas. She is also survived by her sister, Dollie Ramey, of Bellville, Ark., and numerous nieces and nephews.
According to Donnie’s wishes, she will be cremated. A small memorial ceremony will be held at a later date.
Donnie will be greatly missed by all of her family.
