Think ahead, to the rummage sale and Festival of Trees
Friday, November 12, 2010

I know it’s summer because I’ve seen some pretty red faces about town, but I just want to put a little buzz in your ear for later this year.

There are some of you out there who have asked for more advanced notice when we hold this event, so here it is; the Fall Rummage Sale will be Sept.12, in the multi-purpose room/gym at the Pagosa Springs Community Center.

Don’t worry, you’ll still have time to lounge around in your swimsuits, enjoying the sun, but when you start putting all your summer clothes away, just start that pile in the corner of the room for the sale. You’ll be amazed how easy it is.

So there’s my buzz. And remember ... sunscreen!

Tacky Dance

Hip old clothes or maybe the clothes are new. You dress to your own beat, but whatever the case, pull out the special clothes and put them on: highwaters, bell bottoms, polyester flammable wear, there’s no shame if you’re with friends.

This 21-and-over dance is your place to burn up the dance floor, and you have a chance to win a prize. Come in your most tackalicious fashions, and show us your must tackalicious dance steps.

In order to show your moves, you have to purchase tickets — at Higher Grounds Coffee, Happy Trails and the community center. They are only $10 in advance, and $12 at the door. How tackwonderous is that!

Book sale

The Friends of the Library will hold their annual community book sale Saturday July 18, 8 a.m-1 p.m at the Pagosa Springs Community Center. They have lots of great buys: children’s books, cook books, space, adventure and bio books, tapes and videos. I picked up seven cookbooks for less than a value meal!

Festival of Trees

Still thinking of participating? Remember, this is a fun event for giver and receiver alike. The Festival of Trees, Dec. 1-4, is a fatastic opportunity for Archuleta County organizations to raise money, and a great way for the community to enjoy a fun evening. You can pick up an application at the front desk at the center.

Donations needed

Help! The community center needs your donations.

The community has supported our computer lab since its opening. We are calling upon you again because we are in desperate need of four computers. If it is at all possible to ask this without sounding ungracious, we would like computers no older than four years. Everyone has been so generous in the past, and we are asking for that generosity again.

We keep track of use of our computer lab and, as of this writing, we have logged in 1,522 users and 1,665 hours of computers time so far in 2009. This has surpassed our usage to this date last year. We believe this an invaluable service for our community.

So, please, reach deep into those pockets or closets to help keep this service alive. Contact Cristin Robertson at the center before you donate your computer.

We are now on Facebook. The Facebook Wall lists all our current and past events, and photos. We encourage you to become a “fan” of our site to receive automatic updates.
