This week, Music in the Mountains is celebrating the beginning of another outstanding season at BootJack Ranch.
On Friday, July 17, classical music lovers and lovers in general will enjoy a special Date Night treat with the Clavier Trio. Date Night helps make your summer budget dollars stretch a little further by offering special buy-one-get one-free tickets for this concert only. In addition, with your Date Night online purchase you will receive a free CD of the Clavier Trio for your future enjoyment.
“We realize that most people are trying to be frugal with their resources this year. Music in the Mountains wants to continue to be accessible to our audience, even in these financially difficult times,” says Janis Moomaw, who heads the Pagosa Springs steering committee.
The Clavier Trio, featuring violinist Arkady Fomin, cellist Jesus Castro-Balbi and pianist David Korevaar will bring their unique artistic passion to their performance of Anton Arensky’s “Piano Trio in D minor, Opus 32” and Franz Schubert’s “Piano Trio in B flat Major, Op. 99, D. 898.”
Another opportunity to enjoy classical chamber music at its finest will be on Tuesday, July 28, when audiences will delight to hear renowned violinist, Guillermo Figueroa and his sister, pianist Ivonne Figueroa perform Grieg’s “Sonata No. 3 in C minor” and Dvorak’s “Piano Quintet in A. “
Sure to be great audience pleasers, “These are two of the most intensely passionate pieces written by these two composers,” says Figueroa. “They are such audience-friendly works, that I’m confident our concertgoers will enjoy hearing them as much as we enjoy performing them,” he continued.
As a highly acclaimed violinist, Figueroa has performed in many prestigious music halls across the United States, including Carnegie Hall, Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center, and The Kennedy Center, to name only a few. However, one of his favorite places to perform is here in the beautiful San Juan Mountains. “For me, it will be close to coming home once again to be in those beautiful mountain venues where musicians can so readily develop such close relationships with audiences,” says Figueroa.
Figueroa and his sister reign from a highly prestigious musical family in Puerto Rico. He began his studies with his father, Guillermo, and continued with his uncle, Jose, at the Conservatory of Music of Puerto Rico. He went on to earn his master’s degree at the Julliard School of Music, where he studied with Oscar Shumsky and Felix Galimiris.
As a founding member of the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, he has served as Concertmaster and soloist in performances throughout the United States, Europe and Asia and has made over 50 recordings for Deutsche Grammophon.
“Truly, these are not-to-be-missed performances,” says Janis Moomaw, Pagosa steering committee chairperson. “We are so fortunate in Pagosa Springs to enjoy such highly trained musicians. I hope that parents will take this opportunity to bring their children to hear these amazing artists perform,” she said, “as nothing brings fine music to the hearts of children more effectively.”
