Sign up for local softball tournaments
Wednesday, July 22, 2009

Softball players interested in organizing teams to play in local tournaments, which traditionally draw teams from around the Four Corners region, will have two chances to submit rosters during the coming weeks.

The first of a pair of upcoming tournaments is the annual American Legion Tournament, which will be held this weekend (July 11-12) at the high school baseball complex.

The tournament usually features a double-elimination format for men’s teams only; for more information on this tournament, contact Julian Archuleta at 264-4309.

The second tournament is annual the Softball Blowout, which is in its 26th year and features double-elimination brackets for men’s and women’s teams.

This tournament will be held at the high school sports complex Aug. 1-2; teams interested in submitting rosters for this tournament can contact Sue Jones at 264-2642 through the end of this month.

Fireworks

The Town of Pagosa Springs fireworks staff would like to thank everyone who made the Fourth of July holiday a true success.

Thanks go out to the school district, fire department and EMS staff and the countless volunteers who donated their time this year.

Also, we give special thanks to all of the businesses and citizens who donated monetarily to the fireworks fund. Thanks again to each and every one.

Youth tennis

Youth tennis sessions for ages 7-10 will continue to be held Mondays and Wednesdays from 11 a.m.-noon at Wyndham Resorts, and sessions for ages 11-13 will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11 a.m.-noon through the end of the month.

Participants are reminded that they must have a tennis racquet and non-marking athletic or tennis shoes. Running shoes can cause injuries as they are not designed for lateral movement.

All necessary equipment may be ordered from Dale Schwicker at very reasonable costs; he can be contacted at 731-3363.

For more information contact Andy Rice, recreation supervisor, at 264-4151, Ext. 231.

Hooked on Fishing

All participants who have registered for this year’s “Hooked on Fishing, Not on Drugs” program should report to the boat ramp at Lake Forest at 10 a.m. Monday.

Parents who are not participating as program volunteers should make arrangements to have children picked up at the boat ramp no later than 4 p.m. Snacks and drinks will be provided, but sack lunches and spare water are also recommended.

Weather permitting, fishing sessions will be held each Monday at Lake Forest from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. through July 27.
