The Pagosa Springs Women’s Golf Association featured a “Mutt and Jeff” format for its league day, June 23. The ladies played the Meadows Pinon courses with a par 72 rating. The gals played in threesomes and were to record the best two net scores for each par 5 and each par 3 on the two courses. Par for the eight holes is 32; two players’ par is 64.
The team of Nancy Mackensen, Doe Stringer and Lynne McCrudden captured first place with a total of 53; second went to Carrie Weisz, Donna Gregory and Robin Alspach with a 55. There was a tie for third between the team of Audrey Johnson, Leslie Fluharty and Carole Howard, and the team of Lynne Allison, Sheila Rogers and Sue Martin, each team recorded a score of 56.
In continued league play, the association featured a low gross, low net format June 30. The ladies played the Meadows Ponderosa courses (par 71 rating) with their Pine Cone Classic teammates, and scored two-best-balls gross the net for each team. Some of the groups did not have their entire teams present, so a “blind draw” was conducted at the end of the round for those teams. Carol Barrows’ name was randomly selected for the “blind draw,” and since she had a particularly good round, many of us benefited from her gross and net scores.
Jane Stewart, Barbara Sanborn and Lynne Allison captured first place gross honors with a 161. First net went to Josie Hummell, Claudia Johnson and Cindy Simpson with a 118. Carol Barrows, Lynne McCrudden, Nancy McCumber and Sharon Utz were second net with a 121; and third net went to Cherry O’Donnell, Julie Pressley and Jane Day, with a 123.
Immediately following the round, the ladies reconvened at the lovely home of Carol Barrows for a delightful and delicious potluck luncheon, and their end of the month meeting.
