Do you know where your water comes from, and where it goes when you are finished with it?

Find out on Wednesday, July 15, at 9 a.m. when the Pagosa Area Water and Sanitation District staff and resident Oompa-Loompas provide a tour of their chocolate factory located at 100 Lyn Ave., off Lake Forest Circle.

Gene Tautges, PAWSD assistant manager, will lead the public tour which will begin at the PAWSD administrative offices. The tour will travel through the San Juan Water Treatment Plant, across the Xeriscape demonstration garden, and on to the Vista Wastewater Treatment Plant.

Topics to be discussed during the tour include the origin of the raw (untreated) water, the water treatment process, a discussion of potable water distribution from the San Juan plant to customers and the collection of wastewater from customers to the Vista Plant, the wastewater treatment process and by-products, and state and federal regulations guiding these processes.

The tour is expected to take approximately two hours, depending on questions and number of participants. Participants are asked to wear comfortable walking shoes and cameras are welcome.

Space is limited, so R.S.V.P. to PAWSD by July 14, at 731-2691.
