“Peter and the Wolf”
This famous musical work was created by Russian composer Sergi Prokofiev to teach his children about the symphony. Each character is represented by an instrument or instrumental family.
Peter is a little boy who lives in Russia on the edges of a meadow with this grandfather. Beyond the meadow is a deep, dark forest that intrigues Peter while his grandfather warns him of the dangers within. Peter’s curiosity is too strong and he ventures out into the meadow beyond their home.
In the meadow, Peter meets the bird and the duck who argue about flying versus swimming. A cat lurks and stalks the fowl. Grandfather finds Peter in the meadow and warns him of the wolf that lives on the edges of the great forest. Peter says that he is not afraid of wolves! A wonderful chain of events unfold as the wolf leaves the forest for the meadow, Peter returns to the meadow once more and hunters are tracking the wolf.
Children attending this event must be accompanied by an adult. Also, for safety’s sake, please leave your pets at home.
