League play features ‘Just Par Fours’

The Pagosa Springs Women’s Golf Association featured a “Just Par Fours” format for its league day June 2. The ladies played the Meadows Pinon courses rated at par 72. At the end of the round, the ladies totaled their net scores for all of the par fours for the two courses (10) for their aggregate totals for the game.

Carole Howard and Carrie Weisz tied for first place, each with a 38; second went to Sheila Rogers and Robin Alspach who tied at 39; Kay Crumpton placed third with a 41; fourth went to Audrey Johnson with a 42; and Donna Gregory, Claudia Johnson and Nancy Mackensen tied for fifth, each with a 43.

In continued women’s league action, the association featured a low gross, low net format June 9. The ladies played the Meadows Ponderosa courses with a par 71 rating.

Lynda Gillespie captured first place gross honors in the first Flight (0-24 handicap), with a 92. Jo Ann Hazelwood and Doe Stringer tied for first net honors in same flight, each with a 74. Third net went to Cherry O’Donnell and Carrie Weisz, each with a 78.

Ashley Pfeiffle captured low gross honors in the second flight (25-40 handicap),with a 103. First net in the same flight went to Shirley Hunter with a 71; and Sheila Rogers and Carole Howard tied for second net, each with a 74.

The association sent eight of its lowest handicap players to the Cortez Conquistadors Golf Club for its second team play event June 4. The ladies garnered 30.5 points gross and 35 points net against he Hillcrest Golf Club. Interim team captain for the day, Barbara Sanborn, said, “The weather was beautiful, the competition keen, and Kay Crumpton, Carrie Weisz and Audrey Johnson had stellar rounds.” Also competing for Pagosa were Josie Hummel, Jo Ann Hazelwood, Leslie Fluharty and Bonnie Hoover.

The ladies are currently in seventh place gross and sixth place net.
