Custom timber-frame home on PSAC tour

Jack and Janie Bard are sharing their 5,962 square-foot timber-frame home with us on July 12 from noon-4 p.m. during the 2009 Pagosa Springs Arts Council Home Tour.

The couple moved to Pagosa to the Timber Ridge Ranch area four years ago from Denver. Their home was designed and finished exclusively for them. The land surrounding the structure has a very broad scale of look. Even though the front flat ground is charming and accents nature, the back deep slope is developed to be a show stopper.

Outside on the covered deck is one of everyone’s favorite locations: there is a built-in grill cooking area with a full fireplace that contains TV hookups and stereo, as well as a hot tub nearby.

The dimensions of the entry doors typifies the same scale within. As you enter this masterfully composed two-story rock and stucco home, an open yet warm aura with a gentle color pallet surrounds you. The oak floors and alder wooden cabinetry enrich the glow.

Keep your eyes open for one door that is handpainted by a local artist. Another local artist has adorned the fireplace in the living area with a hand-carved mantle.  This open area features nature throughout the windowed-wall grand view of the mountains.

The rock from the fireplace is featured again in a charming hood-covered stove in the kitchen.  Marble-topped sitting and bar spaces join the living, dining and kitchen areas.

Completing the upstairs is a cozy master bedroom featuring an intercom and sound system allowing conversations throughout the home. Each bedroom was placed to partake of the wonderful mountain scenery.

As we amble down the tailored stairway, we are greeted by a lower level that has many extraordinary special touches. The central area has anther serving nook surrounded by a sports room with a pool table, a vented cigar and wine tasting room, an exercise space fully equipped and bath connected to a steam shower.

Sometimes large can have a vacant feeling, but this home is richly adorned and has a welcoming atmosphere for a couple, or a couple dozen.

Please attend the tour and take time at the Bards to share these special features.

There are four homes featured this year on the Pagosa Springs Arts Council Home Tour. Tickets contain information about the locations.

Each ticket is $20 and can be obtained at the Chamber of Commerce, Higher Grounds Coffee Shop, and the PSAC Gallery at Town Park.

Refreshments will be provided at two of the homes and miniature art gifts and small planters for sale at the other two homes.  Please join us for a full afternoon of visual treats and social interaction.
