Tyler Cowan, son of Justin and Melanie Cowan of Pagosa Springs, is one of 16 recipients of the Air, Space and Missile Defense Association (ASMDA) Space Camp Scholarship. These scholarships are available to any child, age 9-11, whose parent or guardian is currently assigned to any of the various Space and Missile Defense Command/Army Forces Strategic Command (SMDC/ARSTRAT) locations around the world. Tyler had to meet many requirements, including a handwritten essay and good academic performance, in order to be considered for this scholarship. The ASMDA scholarship is equivalent to around $1,800, which includes one week at Space Camp (June 28-July 3) in Huntsville, Ala., round-trip airfare from his parent’s work location, a Space Camp flight suit, a Space Camp clothing package, a phone card, a small amount of spending cash, and any unaccompanied minor travel fees.
