Elation Center for the Arts presents “Jerry Barlow: Master Celtic Guitarist,” a back-by-popular-demand performance, at 7 p.m. Friday, June 26, at the Pagosa Lakes Clubhouse.
A consummate musician at the top of his craft, Barlow captures the magic of ancient Celtic melodies. His fluid and melodic music soothes the soul, warms the heart and lifts the spirit. Born and raised in Denver, Barlow has been on the A-list of concert musicians for years.
Barlow describes Celtic music as, “music with great depth and beauty, chronicling the emotional experience of an entire culture.” His performance reflects his immersion in the rich history of the Celtic people. His skillful use of legends and events behind the music, adds a colorful and meaningful dimension to his performance.
An award-winning composer, Barlow was a sought-after performer and songwriter in Nashville for many years. He composed music for three different publishing houses in Nashville before shifting his musical emphasis to Celtic guitar. Now that he no longer has to turn out original music on schedule, he enjoys the freedom to compose as the inspiration arises. The title song from his CD, “Bring Down the Storm,” won the prestigious Independent Music Award.
“I was warming up for a performance one evening when a melody came to me with great clarity,” he says. “The challenge then was to remember the melody throughout the performance until I had time to work with it again. On another occasion, I was sitting in the park in front of my home in Golden, playing my guitar and looking up at the mesas, when a melody came to me that deeply evoked my connection with the landscape.”
Join us for “Jerry Barlow: Master Celtic Guitarist,” when a humorous, warm and accessible performer brings ancient melodies to life.
