Now that Memorial Day has passed and summer is in the air, it’s time for The Springs Theatre Company’s second annual Summer Starlight Series barbecue suppers and shows. Each month in June, July and August, STC will present a different show, along with a barbecue supper in the 4,800 square-foot Pavilion Tent located at Harman Park.
First up is the family friendly comedy “The Plot Thickens...or...It’s All In The Script.” This delightful romp takes the stage Fridays and Saturdays, June 12, 13, 19 and 20.
“The Plot Thickens” is a new production making its stage debut with the Springs Theatre Company. Written by Rick Artis, this clever melodrama within a melodrama is full of witty retorts and clever foreshadowing. Set in present day the story follows a troupe of actors as they rehearse and eventually perform a play set during the turn of the last century. The talented cast consists of Brittany Connor as the troubled but dear Katie, Maggie Greenwood as ever supportive Natalie, Rick Artis as clueless Cal, Adam Logan as sensitive do-gooder Jack and Nicole Dominguez as the challenging Monica. Aided by their on the spot stage manager Randi played by Lizz Baldwin and the snide director Roscoe played by Michael DeWinter, can the actors overcome the rigors of rehearsal and let the show go on? Directed by Betty Schwicker, this show promises lots of laughter and a few surprises.
Doors will open for each performance at 6:30 p.m. with preshow entertainment until 7, when the buffet is served. Guests will dine on a supper of barbecue brisket or barbecue chicken (a vegetarian option is available by request), fresh cole slaw, cowboy baked beans, rolls and butter, hot fruit cobbler, lemonade and coffee. A well stocked Zuber Fizz soda bar will also be available for those in need of a little carbonation.
Admission is $28 for adults, $20 for children 12 and under and includes the supper and the show. Advance seating tickets for all three shows are on sale now at The Plaid Pony (731-5262) or online at www.SpringsTheatreCompany.org.
