Latin Dance continues this evening, June 4, with Phyllis Dodson at the Pagosa Lakes Clubhouse.
Class is from 6:30 to 8 p.m. and costs $5. Drop-ins are welcome.
Latin Dance is sponsored by Elation Center for the Arts. The second class in June is Thursday, June 18.
Latin dance is gaining popularity on dance floors everywhere. Besides being a staple in the ballroom, many Latin dances are also being taken to country-western dance floors. Learning Latin dances is fairly easy, as most of the dances are made up of the same basic foot steps.
Phyllis’ relaxed teaching style focuses on the unique “personality” of each dance. Become more confident dancing to the syncopated or “happy” rhythms that are a feature of all Latin dancing or “Danzon.”
Latin dances historically popular in rural communities are demonstrated and taught in a clear and simple fashion, with an emphasis on styling tips for achieving an authentic feel for Latin dance. Learn the energetic and sassy cha-cha, and the simple ranchera, as well as cumbia, salsa, mambo, meringue and waltz.
Beginners are welcome, and this also makes a great practice session for experienced dancers No partner is needed. Call Elation Center for the Arts at 731-3117 for more information.
