William (Bill) Henry Seielstad, Jr., 80, passed away May 6, 2009. He was born January 26, 1929, in Lovell, Wyoming, and moved with his family to Denver in 1941, where Bill graduated from East High School and received a BA degree in pharmacy at the University of Colorado. He married Joan Eileen Wiley in 1953, and served in the Medical Corp during the Korean War.
Bill is preceded in death by his mother and father, Phrone Thomas Seielstad and William H. Seielstad, and by his sister, Ann Seielstad Rhine. He is survived by his wife, Joan, three daughters, Karen (Howard) Heck, Eileen (Forrest) Yelverton and Barbara (Michael) Shoptaugh, along with three grandchildren, Nicole, Christopher and Kelly. He is also survived by six nieces, Nancy, Amy, Susie and Janet Wiley, and Stephanie and Rebecca Rhine.
Bill was always active in community and state politics. Though often controversial, he was a moving force with a commitment to improve the community he always cared for. Bill was chairman of the Archuleta County Republican Party for many years and served on the Colorado State Executive Board. He served as Pagosa Springs Town Board member and chairman of the Archuleta County Commission. He was president of the Pagosa Springs Chamber of Commerce, served on the Fort Lewis College Foundation Board, and was president of the Metro District at Purgatory for many years.
Memorial service will be held Saturday, May 30, 2009, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church, Pagosa.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Upper San Juan Library District (PO Box 849, Pagosa Springs, CO 81147) or the Fort Lewis College Foundation (Fort Lewis College, 1000 Rim Drive, Durango, CO 81301).
