Art imitates life ... a very true concept illustrated in the Springs Theatre Company’s newest production of “The Plot Thickens or It’s All In The Script.” This family friendly comedy is the first of three productions being offered this summer during the second annual Summer Starlight Series Barbecue Suppers and Shows. Written by Rick Artis, this melodrama within a melodrama is set in present day and follows a troupe of actors, the stage manager Randi, and the director Roscoe, as they rehearse and eventually perform a play set during the turn of the last century. Will the personalities of the characters follow those of the actors? Boo the villain and cheer the hero, but be sure you are correct as to which is which!
The cast includes Maggie Greenwood, Lizz Baldwin, Brittany Connor, Rick Artis, Adam Logan, Nicole Dominguez and Michael DeWinter. Directed by Betty Schwicker, this show promises lots of laughter and a few surprises. This delightful romp takes the stage Fridays and Saturdays, June 12, 13, 19 and 20 in the Pavilion Tent located at Harman Park.
Doors will open for each performance at 6:30 p.m. with preshow entertainment until 7 when the buffet is served. Guests will dine on a supper of barbecue brisket or barbecue chicken (a vegetarian option is available by request), fresh cole slaw, cowboy baked beans, rolls and butter, hot fruit cobbler, lemonade and coffee. A well stocked Zuber Fizz soda bar will also be available for those in need of a little carbonation.
Admission is $28 for adults, $20 for children 12 and under and includes the supper and the show. Advance seating tickets for all three shows are on sale now at The Plaid Pony (731-5262) or online at www.SpringsTheatreCompany.org.
