This is the American Cancer Society Relay for Life’s 25th anniversary.
We at the Archuleta County Relay For Life are excited about the participation in the Relay this year — to be held June 19-20 at Golden Peaks Stadium. Last year, we had 17 teams and this year, so far, we have 27.
Our fund-raising goal this year is $87,000. So far, our teams have turned in almost $15,000.
We have all been touched in some way by cancer. Raising money for this cause is easy when it has touched your life. If you don’t have a team and want to form one, it is not too late. If you know someone on a team and can’t walk with them this year, give them your financial support. Ask your friends, family, home owners association, employer and employees to participate and contribute. See if your employer will match what you raise.
There are many fun events happening this year. The carnival, of course, is a big event for children and their families. The games and prizes are always inventive and fun.
Several of the entertainers for Relay for Life are eager to perform this year. There are dancers of all kinds, from ballroom dancers to belly dancers. There are two large-screen TVs on which we’ll show a couple of great movies in the middle of night to accompany some great snacking. Restaurants have been generous, donating food. The Alpine Lakes Group is in charge of additional goodies for participants to munch on. The baked goods are to diet for!
There several team fund-raisers this month. Don’t miss the huge garage sale May 15-16 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 223 Driftwood Circle. Another other outstanding event is the High Altitude Blues at the Bear Creek Saloon, 6 p.m. Friday, May 29. The Alpine Lakes Ranch team is having a car wash and barbecue 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, May 23, at the Outfitter. All proceeds will benefit the Relay For Life.
There is something for everyone at the Relay. Open your hearts and your pocketbooks, and enjoy being a part of this great event.
