The High Country Squares Square Dance Club performed a few dances last weekend at the annual shareholder’s meeting of the La Plata Electric Association.
Jim Park called some patter and singing calls and club members danced to a variety of music. Shareholders attending the luncheon were then invited to give square dancing a try as our caller and club members guided them through some interesting square dance steps. Everyone had a good time and there were a lot of laughs.
The High Country Squares will again offer introductory square dance lessons this summer, beginning June 1, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., at the PLPOA Clubhouse, 230 Port Ave. These beginner lessons will run throughout the summer, with sessions held Monday evenings.
Square dancing is easy to learn: you simply walk to music and follow the caller’s cues. You don’t need rhythm or dance experience. The only requirements are to know your left from your right. Square dancing is not a spectator sport, it is for the active in heart and mind. It’s great physical exercise and mental stimulation. Come see for yourself what square dancing is all about!
