Reception tonight for high school arts students exhibit

The newest PSAC exhibit is the Advanced High School Art Students, which will open with an artists’ reception today, April 30, from 5-7 p.m. in Town Park Gallery.

Digital exhibit postcards

In an effort to reduce our costs and save on the use of paper PSAC is going to be sending exhibit postcards in an e-mail blast from now on. We hope that we won’t miss contacting you and we would like our members to notify us if they have a new e-mail address or if their e-mail address has changed. Our e-mail address is or you can call 264-5020 and we’ll look forward to hearing from you.

Randall Davis portrait series

The portrait series, which began April 18, is led by Randall Davis and consists of a total of four classes, one every two weeks. There will be a full frontal portrait session on May 2. On May 16, the topic is perspective and three-quarter view. On May 30, you will draw live model sketches (there will be an extra fee of $8-$10 for the model depending on the number of students). The class is all related to portraits, but general drawing principles, including value and perspective will be emphasized and there will be short reviews of previous sessions, if needed. If you can’t make all four classes you can still finish the series. The live model class will be especially interesting as we will be doing several posed sketches. The cost for each class is $35 and we ask that you please call PSAC at 265-5020 to register.

Music Boosters “Raise the Roof”

Pagosa Springs Music Boosters starts their 2009 20th Anniversary celebration headlining international trumpeter Chris “Hot Lips” Lawson in a unique musical concert supported by our own local musicians extraordinaire! Chris has performed with some of the biggest names in show biz over the years, and we are excited to have him in Pagosa for a concert to raise monies for our college scholarship fund.

Concert dates are May 2 at 7 p.m., with a special matinee performance May 3 at 2 p.m., at the PSHS auditorium.  Open seating tickets are available at the Chamber , and at the door an hour before performances.  In order to allow everyone the opportunity to attend the concert, Music Boosters is offering special pricing for this concert: $10 for adults and $5 for students. Come on out and help “Raise the Roof “with the music of Chris Lawson and a cast of great local musicians.

Watercolor workshop

Denny Rose and Ginnie Bartlett will offer this adult workshop on May 6, 7 and 8, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at the community center. The class is for individuals who have always wanted to try their hand at watercolor, who are not ready to take other workshops or who have tried watercolor on their own. It offers a chance to learn to paint with others who are uncertain of their talent, those frustrated by other classes and those who have struggled to learn on their own with limited success. Come and join us. Learn the important things you need to know about materials and techniques to begin creating your own works of art. Watercolor is magic and we’ll have lots of fun as you learn!

Mornings are spent on lessons and exercises with brushes, paint and paper, and learning the basics of brush strokes, value, color and simple painting techniques. Afternoons will be spent painting. Denny and Ginnie use an overhead teaching mirror as they demonstrate each step. You’ll see how the materials are handled and follow the instructor in completing a painting using the lessons of the morning. Please call PSAC at 264-5020 to register and for a supply list. Please bring a lunch, for we don’t stop long enough for you to go out.
