Rename the Sports Complex

For the past several years, the Town of Pagosa Springs has been working toward the completion of a new 16-acre park facility on South 5th Street which has been commonly referred to as the “Sports Complex.”

The ongoing development of this facility is the result of funding contributions from Great Outdoors Colorado, the town, county and school district, and the second phase of the complex was recently completed. As a result, the complex will soon assume its role as the newest functioning community park, and is now ready for a new name.

Through the end of the month, citizens are invited to help name this new facility by submitting suggestions to the recreation office in Town Hall.

Submissions should include the name and contact information of the entrant, and can be dropped off at the front desk in Town Hall. Submissions can also be mailed to:

“Name Game,” Town Hall, P.O. Box 1849, Pagosa Springs, CO 81147, or e-mailed to tcarosello@centurytel.net.

The contest will end at 5 p.m. April 30, and the winning entry will be announced in May.

For more information, contact the recreation office at 264-4151, Ext. 232.

Register for baseball

Registration for this year’s youth baseball leagues begins today and will run through Friday, May 1.

The recreation office will accept registrations for coach-pitch division (ages 6, 7 and 8) and the 9- and 10-year-old division.

The office will also accept registrations for the 11-12 division and the 13-14 division, but if the number of registrations turned in is not sufficient to support leagues in these age brackets (at least two teams), registration fees will be refunded and the leagues will be canceled.

Registrations are available at the recreation office in Town Hall and are also available for download through the recreation department link at www.townofpagosasprings.com. Registrations will be disbursed to local schools, as well. All registrations should be submitted to the recreation office.

Cost to participate in the program is $30 per player and $15 for each additional child in the same family who participates. Team coaches and sponsors are needed and appreciated.

The season is tentatively scheduled to begin in late May; for more information, call the recreation office at 264-4151, Ext. 231 or 232.
