Richard E. Zaday Sr.

Richard E. “Dick” Zaday Sr., 70, died Thursday April 9, 2009, in Qiao Tou Town, Dong Guan City, Guang Dong, China.

Dick was born March 9, 1939, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Irene and Edward Zaday (Zsadanyi), vaudeville and opera performers, they were owners of a Hungarian nightclub in Cleveland, which is where Dick got his wonderful comedic and outgoing personality. In 1950, they moved to Culver City, Calif., where Dick attended high school at Venice High — “Where Grease was filmed,” he would always say.

Dick worked in electronic engineering, management and sales his entire life, from a design engineer to plant manager at Triad-Utrad Corp. in Venice, Calif., to owning his own manufacturer’s representative firm, to sales manager for Alpha Wire, Hamilton Standard, Spectrol Electronics, and Spectrum Control, where he was a senior vice president of sales and most recently the general manager and Asian sales manager for their facility in China.

His hobbies included construction and remodeling, which he pursued when he started Zaday Home Builders in Pagosa Springs in 2005, during a short retirement from Spectrum. He was a member of the Builder’s Association of Pagosa Springs and served on the board of directors. He was full-blood Hungarian and loved the “gypsy” travel. A born storyteller, he could keep everyone laughing with his jokes and pranks. He was an LS graduate of PSI Seminars. He was a member of Christ the King, Lutheran Church, Durango, Colo.

He is survived by Rhonda “Ronnie” Zaday; his son, Richard Zaday Jr., of Valencia, Calif.; his three daughters, Deborah Mills of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif, Julie DuBoise, and Tiffany Orton and husband Jason Orton of Corona, Calif; grandchildren Melissa and Adam Zaday, Ashley and Jacob Mills. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Service Arrangements are pending. He will be laid to rest at Hilltop Cemetery in Pagosa Springs, Colo.
