Pagosa Youth String Orchestra debuts at scholarship fund-raiser

Imagine 10 talented young string players in a performance of Mozart’s “Ave Verum Corpus.” Now, imagine it happening right here in Pagosa Springs.

The Spring Strings fund-raiser is being held Thursday, April 30, at St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church at 7 p.m. It will feature the debut performance of the Pagosa Youth String Orchestra, or PYSO, which will play the Mozart composition as well as a striking piece entitled “Defender of Time.” The program will also include some of Pagosa’s up-and-coming string players in solo, duet and trio presentations. An array of delicious desserts and beverages will be served after the concert.

Another special feature of this event will be two selections performed by the Fiore String Quartet. These four young ladies (all of whom have been Conservatory Music in the Mountains scholarship winners) will not only be a part of the evening’s program, but will also have their musical talents auctioned that evening to the highest bidder for a private event such as a dinner party or a wedding. The money raised from the auction is being donated to the Music in the Mountains scholarship fund and schools programs.

Tickets for this exciting premier event are just $10 for adults and $5 for students 15 and under, and are available at the Pagosa Springs Chamber of Commerce, at St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church, or by calling 731-2733. Seating is limited to the capacity of St. Patrick’s sanctuary, so early purchase is recommended.
