Pagosa Springs Arts Council will conduct its 2009 Artist Studio and Gallery Tour on ColorFest weekend; Saturday, Sept. 12, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, Sept. 13, 12 Noon to 5 p.m. Save these dates!
We’re excited to offer this opportunity that benefits our artists, gallery businesses and our community as a whole.
The 2009 tour is open to all amateur and professional artists 18 and older and residing in Archuleta County, and all gallery businesses operating in Archuleta County and representing our community’s artists. Any artist not able to participate through their private studio has the option to participate through a local gallery business that represents the artist. Artist demonstrations during the tour are highly encouraged ,as these are always major crowd-pleasers.
We’re thrilled and delighted to announce that the participation fees for this year’s tour are the same as in 2008;
• $20 per artist studio for members of Pagosa Springs Arts Council.
• $30 per artist studio for nonmembers.
• $50 per business for participating gallery businesses.
The fees collected will go towards paying the production cost for 1,000 full-color brochures; to be distributed locally and regionally to attract cultural tourists to the event. Twenty-seven artists participated in last year’s tour. They benefitted through the new business contacts they made, and from their direct, non-commission sales. Almost half of the participants sold artwork, which more than covered their participation fees. The tour is a good sales and marketing opportunity for our community’s artists and galleries.
Artists and gallery owners wanting to participate in this year’s tour need to contact Roxanne Schick, PSAC administrative coordinator, at 264-5020 or through email@example.com by Friday, April 24, to reserve a space. Tour spaces will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
The final deadline for payment, receipt of an artist information package, and execution of the participation contract for this year’s tour is Friday, May 15. Roxanne Schick will be glad to receive these items through the mail or hand delivery to PSAC’s Town Park Gallery, 315 Hermosa St., P.O. Box 533, Pagosa Springs, CO 81147. PSAC will commence our summer hours starting today, April 2, Thursdays, noon to 4 p.m.
This year’s Artist Studio and Gallery Tour will include two new features. One will be the addition of an outside-of-class field trip offered for Pagosa Springs High School Advanced Art students to participate on tour. During the field trip, the students will have the opportunity to visit several working artist studios to expand their artistic knowledge and appreciation, see the artists at work, and talk with the artists about their work processes, techniques and such things as how to enter the visual arts field as a career path. Mentoring our local emerging artists in their development as artists is a particularly important goal of the current PSAC board.
Another new feature is our Brochure Cover Art Contest, for the selection of artwork to be featured on the tour brochure cover. The Brochure Cover Art Contest is open to all artists planning to participate on this year’s tour, and working in any medium. PSAC will select the winner(s) of this contest, and the winning artist(s) will be awarded by having an image of their winning artwork published either on the brochure cover or in a prominent position elsewhere in the brochure. The winning artist(s) also will be acknowledged as the creator(s) of the winning artwork(s). If you are interested in participating on this year’s tour and want to compete in the Brochure Cover Art Contest, please submit a high resolution (300 dpi minimum) jpg image for up to two artworks to Roxanne Schick via CD or e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org no later than May 15. The winning artwork(s) will be announced by PSAC by May 29.
In keeping with PSAC’s goal of increasing cultural participation within our community, this year’s tour will be free to the public. Last year’s tour attracted more than 200 tourgoers — local residents, and visitors from as far away as Telluride, Espanola, N.M., Phoenix, Ariz. and Arlington, Texas.
If you want to be a part of our 2009 Artist Studio and Gallery Tour contact Roxanne Schick at 264-5020 or email@example.com.
