The Springs Theatre Company will hold auditions April 3, 4 and 9 for its second Summer Starlight Series The auditions will be held at the Community United Methodist Church on Friday, April 3, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and Saturday, April 4, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and the following Thursday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., at the Plaid Pony.
With a different show each month, performance dates for the dinner theatre productions will be June 12, 13, 19 and 20; July 17, 18, 24 and 25; and Aug. 7, 8, 14 and 15. All shows will be performed at the Harman Park Pavilion.
June’s play, “The Plot Thickens or It’s All in the Script”, which was commissioned for this series, is a melodrama within a melodrama. The story line revolves around a young woman who brings a world of troubles into the rehearsal hall where she is the heroine of a melodrama. The other cast members play within her personal melodrama with little recognition of the parallels between her world and the plot of the play they are rehearsing. This play features a cast of four women and three men.
July’s production, in Celebration with the Pagosa Springs Renaissance/Pirate Fair, will be “The Compleat Works of Wllm Shkspr (abridged).” This farcical play features every play every written by the Bard, in about an hour and a half. The cast consists of three non-gender specific players.
August brings another new work, “Left in the Breeze”, a farce set in the antebellum south during the Civil War. This play has a cast of the four women and three men. Characters include:
Snarlett O’Hernia — The epitome of narcissistic egotism. She never met a mirror she didn’t like.
“Cap’n” Rhetch Bumbler — Rich ‘gentleman’, due to inheriting a fortune from his grandfather’s okra plantation.
Paisley Whelps — A whining weenie who marries his third cousin twice removed or is it his second cousin thrice removed.
Meddling Whelps — Paisley’s narcoleptic cousin/wife .
Pristine — A house servant who is outwardly moronic, but the smartest of the bunch.
Charles/Frank Hankypank — Twin brothers conveniently available for Snarlett to marry.Belle Waddling — Less than attractive lady of the evening and financial advisor.
