Youth basketball division winners announced

Monday marked the end of this year’s youth basketball seasons for ages 9-12, and the recreation department staff extends congratulations to the 9-10 Columbia team and 11-12 Navy team for earning first-place honors.

We would also like to recognize this year’s volunteer coaches and sponsors, whose generous contributions of time and resources once again made an enjoyable season a reality.

In the 9-10 division, we thank coaches Todd Miller, Craig Vrazel, Terry Schaaf, Kim and Allen Thompson, Derek Lamoreaux, Joseph Garcia, Allen Gregg, Brian Griego, Tim Miller, Nate Bryant, April Lucero and Berklee Ruthardt.

Sponsors for the 9-10 division included Pagosa Springs Sports Medicine, Honda Hauls LLC, Design A Sign, Joseph Garcia (The Barber, at Ray’s), Allen’s Auto Body and Cat Creek Trucking.

In the 11-12 division, we recognize coaches Ed Furtaw, Andy Rice, Tim Miller, Jerry Smith, Berklee Ruthardt, April Lucero, Dave Close, Kelly and Dylan Laner, David Snarr, and Bill and Lori Manzanares.

Sponsors for the 11-12 division included Family Dollar, Timothy Miller Custom Homes, Design A Sign, ReSport and Trading Post Repair.

In addition to coaches and sponsors, another key ingredient to the success of all recreation programming is the support from participants, and we would like to thank all of the players and their parents and guardians who made positive contributions to this year’s leagues. As administrators, we recognize that participation in youth sports programs inevitably requires navigation of a few speed bumps, despite the best of intentions and planning.

So, for those who took false fire alarms, hectic schedules, late game times and the occasional missed call in stride — thanks again for your exemplary sportsmanship, patience and support.
