Springs Theatre Company’s newest dinner theatre production, “Cookin’ With Gus!” dishes up laughs when it takes the stage March 26, 27 and 28. Tickets are selling fast for this charming and romantic comedy set in 1977, however, plenty of good seats remain available.
Audience members will follow the antics of Gussie Richardson, a gourmet chef, as she prepares to film a pilot for a TV cooking show. However, mayhem ensues when Gussie reveals that she is afraid of speaking in public!
This latest offering from STC is directed by Michael DeWInter. Michael has been heavily involved in theatre both on and off stage since he was a child. He has appeared in three television commercials and countless stage productions. Michael studied set and costume design in college and has voluntarily applied his talents to the Pagosa stage since moving to town over twelve years ago. He is a co-founder and the current President of The Springs Theatre Company.
Playing Gussie is veteran Pagosa actress Sandy Applegate. Audiences may know Sandy from her appearances in local productions of “The Diaries of Adam and Eve”, “Good Help is So Hard To Murder” or “You Can’t Take it With You.” Gus is assisted by her fast-talking agent Bernie played by theatre newcomer and longtime resident Bernadette Mondry in her Pagosa Springs stage debut.
Theatregoers will recognize Gussie’s funloving gypsy neighbor, Carmen, played by Candy Flaming. Candy has appeared in numerous shows since her childhood, most recently as Miss Scarlett in STC’s production of “Clue! The Musical” and as Andrea in last summer’s Melodrama “Dora, The Beautiful Dishwasher.” Rounding out the talented cast is Gussie’s lovable love interest Walter played by Kevin Van Maanen. Kevin is a member of The Springs Theatre Company’s board of directors and appeared last summer as the villain in STC’s “Foiled by an Innocent Maid.”
Will Gussie overcome her fear of speaking in public and truly become the next Julia Child? Only the audience will know for sure when they see “Cookin’ WIth Gus!” presented at the Pagosa Lakes Clubhouse. A three-course dinner will be served beginning at 6:30 p.m. and the show will follow at 7:30 Guests will enjoy a menu of mixed spring field greens salad with feta cheese, mandarin oranges and citrus vinaigrette dressing, fresh baked rolls and butter, apricot glazed chicken breast, red skinned garlic mashed potatoes, fresh green peas and carrots and a slice of New York style cheesecake with an assortment of toppings for dessert. A variety of sodas, iced tea and coffee are also included and vegetarian options are available.
Admission is $30 per person and includes dinner, dessert, beverages and the show. Previous productions by The Springs Theatre Company have sold out, so don’t wait to purchase your tickets.
