Ada Althera (Smith) died Mar. 5, 2009, at Four Corners HealthCare Center in Durango. She was born Oct. 28, 1914, in Denver, Colo., but lived most of her life in California where she was a bookkeeper. She moved to Pagosa Springs in 1996 with her daughter, Jean Kirsch, who she lived with until she needed nursing help in 2004. Ada had five brothers and was the only daughter of James Alfred Smith and Althera Earnhelpe (Field) Smith, both of Yorkshire, England. Ada’s indomitable spirit and love of life stayed with her all of her 94 years.
She is survived by her brother Ralph William Smith, three children, 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren and 23 nieces and nephews. Her family and friends will celebrate her life in Goodyear, Ariz., on April 19.
