Thomas Edward Sansom, devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother, passed away peacefully Feb. 1, 2009, at the Crestview Health Center, with family by his side.
He was born in Mart, Texas, Dec. 24, 1921, to Joseph Edward Sansom and Nina Glenn Haydon Sansom. Tom was raised in Mart and graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 1943, with a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering. Following graduation, he accepted a position with General Electric Company to work on the installation and repair of radar on U.S. Navy warships during World War II. After the war, he planned, implemented and managed several nationwide service operations.
On Dec. 4, 1943, Tom married the love of his life, Barbara Jean Cline. Tom’s career spanned over 40 years, and took him to many parts of the world. Tom and his family moved 32 times while G.E. was in the forefront of computer technology. He retired in 1983 to Pagosa Springs, and later to Waco, Texas, in 2004.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Clara Lea Reynolds. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Barbara; his daughter, Renee Sansom Flood, of Billings, Mont.; his son, Thomas R. Sansom, and wife, Doreen, of Santa Fe, N.M.; grandchildren, Dr. Tony Figueras, of Ridgefield, Wash., Shane S. Flood, of Rapid City, S.D., Jesse C. Sansom of Albuquerque, N.M., and Rachael C. Sansom, of Boston, Mass.; sisters, Nina Nell Williams, of Waco, Texas, Jo Glenn Koehne, of Mart, Texas, and Margaret Ann Anderson of Newtown, Pa; James N. Sansom, of Fort Worth, Texas; numerous nieces and nephews; and seven great-grandchildren.
The family is grateful to all the attentive nurses and staff of Crestview Healthcare Center and to Linda Gilliam, LCSW, and staff of Hillcrest Community Hospice, for providing special loving care.
Cremation has taken place, and family memorial services are planned for a later date.
