Adults interested in participating in pick-up basketball games can attend open gym at the junior high school Wednesday nights from 6-8 p.m. through Feb. 25.
Non-marking athletic shoes are required, and participants are reminded that tobacco and alcohol are not permitted on school grounds at any time.
On a related note, the Pagosa Springs Recreation Department is now accepting team registrations for the 2009 adult men’s and women’s basketball leagues. Registration forms are available at the department office in Town Hall; deadline for registering teams in this year’s leagues is Feb. 13.
Staff will accept registrations for men’s recreation league, men’s competitive league and women’s recreation league.
However, if there are not at least four teams registered for the women’s league by the deadline, the women’s league will be canceled. Team registration fees are $250 per team, plus a $30 fee per player.
The leagues are tentatively scheduled to begin in late February. Call the recreation office at 264-4151 Ext. 231 for more information.

Games in the 9-10 division will be played in the community center gym Tuesdays and Thursdays, while games in the 11-12 division will be played Mondays and Wednesdays in the same venue.

The recreation department is accepting donations for this year’s Fourth of July fireworks show.
Donations in any amount will be accepted; checks and money orders should be made payable to Town of Pagosa Springs.
Donations should be addressed Attention: Fireworks and mailed to P.O. Box 1859, Pagosa Springs, CO 81147. If you would like to make a cash donation, please do so in person at the front desk in Town Hall.
This free pick-up style program for players ages 5-and-over is held Saturdays from 10 a.m.-noon in the community center gym (when space is available).
The program consists of informal scrimmages, practice and instruction. Non-marking athletic shoes are required; skating shoes are not recommended. The season is expected to run through late March or early April.
Indoor soccer balls and goals will be provided; outdoor balls will not be permitted. Shin guards are highly recommended for all participants.

The Town of Pagosa Springs is once again conducting a Christmas tree recycling program. Anyone wishing to participate in this program can take trees to be recycled to South Pagosa Park on South 8th Street between now and the end of March.
Look for the signs directing recyclers to the collection area. To ensure that trees can be properly recycled, please remove all lights and ornaments before leaving your tree.
The parks department will chip the collected trees into mulch to be used for landscaping projects during the coming season.
