American Legion Post announces scholarship opportunities

The Mullins-Nickerson American Legion Post 108 of Pagosa Springs would like to announce a new scholarship available to Pagosa Springs High School graduates. As the second of two such endowments the Post offers, it was established with proceeds from a raffle held at the Post last summer.

In gratitude, Post 108 would like to thank area residents for their enthusiasm in purchasing raffle tickets for last year’s Yamaha ATV drawing. As a result of participants’ generosity, it is the Post’s desire to assist Pagosa Springs graduates who are related to veterans — or who are veterans — in their pursuit of a higher education. This includes children, step-children, grandchildren and siblings of veterans; as well as recently discharged veterans who served honorably in the Armed Forces of the United States.

Post 108 will extend this annual $1,000 scholarship to a local high school senior graduating this spring; or one that has previously graduated, served in the Armed Forces and has applied within two years of receiving an Honorable Discharge.

Interested candidates may obtain an application and list of qualifications at the high school councilor’s office, or by contacting the American Legion Post 108 Scholarship Committee at P.O. Box 1655, Pagosa Springs, CO 81147.

Both Post 108 scholarships are awarded to graduating seniors, with the earlier one going to a student whose parents or grandparents have served honorably in America’s Armed Forces.
