Former resident of Pagosa Springs Jeanette Keane passed away and went home to be with her Lord Monday, Jan. 19, 2009, at Mercy Medical Hospital. Jeanette had fought cancer since March of 2008. She was 64 years old.
Jeanette was born April 30, 1944, in Denver and was adopted by Herbert and Mary Thompson. The Thompsons moved to Pagosa Springs in 1946 where Dr. Thompson was the only doctor for many years. Jeanette graduated from Pagosa Springs High School in 1962, and then attended two years of college at Western State in Gunnison and Adams State in Alamosa, before moving back to Pagosa Springs. Jeanette was a teacher’s aide at the Pagosa Springs Elementary School for 14 years before going into banking. She worked at Palm Harbor Homes in Farmington, N.M., until October 2008.
Jeanette married John Keane March 17, 1967. John and Jeanette had known each other since he was five and she was two when she told his grandmother that someday she was going to marry him. Jeanette is survived by her husband John, her daughter Charlotte Keane, grandson John Chavez, and son-in-law David Chavez of Aztec, N.M.; and daughter Michelle Keane and grandson Cody Keane of Pagosa Springs, as well as many nieces and nephews and “adopted” kids and grandkids.
Jeanette’s passion in life was her family and she was a loving homemaker. She kept her door open to her daughters’ friends as well as her grandsons’ friends. She and John were known by many as mom and dad and grandma and grandpa. Her other passions were gardening and hummingbirds.
Jeanette was deeply loved and will be sorely missed. “She whom we love and lose is no longer where she was before. She is now wherever we are.”
