Valentine fund-raiser to benefit Red Cross

Valentine’s Day is approaching, and we have a great way for you to celebrate the evening, and help support your local chapter of the American Red Cross.

We are collaborating with Southwest Red Cross to help with their fund-raising efforts. A percentage of the proceeds made during our event will go directly to this chapter.

We will have hors d’oeuvres, beer provided by Pagosa Brewing, wine and non-alcoholic beverages. DJ Dude will whisk us away with C&W, R&B, rock, oldies and goodies.

Come spend the evening with us, and help a local organization that helps so many. You can purchase tickets at Higher Grounds Coffee, 731-3666, and the community center, 264-4152. Tickets are: $12 single, $20 couples in advance and $15 at the door.

Free programs. That’s what we are looking for. Maybe a book club or a dining adventure night (show a film on a country or state, and dine on its cuisine). I know you have more ideas, so let me hear from you. Just give me a call, and I’ll see what we can get started on. Call Michelle at 264-4152.

Mandarin Chinese. Are you interested in learning Mandarin Chinese? Well if you are, call the community center. Xie Lin (Sha Lin) would love to teach you. Classes are free, and will be offered on Fridays or Saturdays, 1-3 p.m. or 2-4 p.m. depending on the response. Call 264-4152.

Swing Dance class. If you are interested in taking free Swing Dance classes, call the center. The instructor will be Elizabeth Howey. The classes will be in the evening, starting around 5:30 or 6 p.m.

Preschooler’s playgroup. The center is intent on supporting Pagosa’s preschoolers by providing use of the gym on Thursday mornings from 10 a.m.-noon. Bring clean shoes with non-marking soles, as well as balls, ride-on toys and bikes with clean tires. A parent or guardian needs to stay, so no drop-offs please. This is a great opportunity for both kids and their adults, as the weather gets colder. Contact Gwen Taylor with questions or suggestions at 731-0305.

Couples and line dancing class. Line dancing will resume at the center on Monday, Jan. 26, at 10:15 a.m. Call Gerri at 731-9734 for more information.

Hoopsters. Join us Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8-9 a.m. The group welcomes all. Call the center, 264-4152, or Larry at 731-3984 or 264-1024, for more information.

Yoga. Come join our class in the gym every Tuesday, 10-11:30 a.m. Bring a mat or thick towel, that’s all it takes!

Duplicate Bridge. Tuesdays, 5:30-10 p.m. and Fridays, 12:30-4 p.m. Meet other Duplicate Bridge enthusiasts. We welcome all players. Call the center for more information, 264-4152, or Stan, 731-2217.

Alateen. Every Thursday, 6:30-7:30 p.m. in the East Conference room. If you need someone to talk to or have questions, please attend. Hope Walker is the instructor. Call the community center if you have questions, 264-4152.

Volleyball for Fun. If you are junior high age, and want to play volleyball, join us at the community center, Jan. 23 and 30, from 1:45-3 p.m. The teams are growing.
