Festival of Trees raises more than $9,800 for local nonprofits

The Festival of Trees was a huge success, and our thanks go to the more than 150 guests who attended the event.

There were 26 beautifully decorated Christmas trees that were auctioned off, along with a silent auction that was full of crafts items for the season’s decorations.

The evening brought in more than $9,800 for 22 local non-profit organizations. Archuleta County families in need also benefitted from the event; there were 10 trees donated to the families. I would like to express a sincere thank you to everyone who participated and helped out at this wonderful event.

New program ideas

Well, we did get someone to call regarding a new free program; that’s all it takes. Anything goes ideawise — a game night, a movie night, a book club, a dining adventure night (show a film on a country or state, and dine on its cuisine).

I know there are more ideas out there. Just give me a call, and I’ll see what we can get started. Call me, Michelle, at 264-4152.

Regular programs

Preschooler’s playgroup. The community center is supporting Pagosa’s preschoolers by generously providing use of the gym on Thursday mornings from 10 a.m-noon. Bring clean shoes with non-marking soles, as well as balls, ride-on toys and bikes with clean tires. A parent or guardian needs to stay, so no drop-offs please. This is a great opportunity for both kids and their adults, as the weather gets colder. Contact Gwen Taylor with questions or suggestions at 731-0305.

Couples and line dancing. We will break for the holiday until Monday, Jan. 5. Call Gerry at 731-9734 for more information.

Indoor Soccer. Indoor Soccer will be cancelled on Dec. 13. Starting Jan. 3 we will start full schedules on most Saturdays through March or April (depending on weather). For more information, call Matt, 903-8663.

Hoopsters. Join us Tuesdays and Thursdays 8-9 a.m. The group welcomes all. Call the center, 264-4152, or Larry at 731-3984 or 264-1024, for more information.

Yoga. Come to our class in the gym every Tuesday 10-11:30 a.m. Bring a mat or thick towel, that’s all it takes.

Weight Watchers. We’re starting a new program this week called “Momentum.” Come join us and learn how to lose weight, and not be hungry. Wednesdays, 5-6 p.m.

Duplicate Bridge. We meet every Tuesday, 5:30-10 p.m; Fridays 12:30-4 p.m. Come and meet other Duplicate Bridge enthusiasts. We welcome all players. Call the center for more information, 264-4152, or Stan, 731-2217.

It’s a family affair. First place in last week’s Festival of Trees decorating competition went to members of a Pagosa family. The tree decorated by, from left, Christy Gotchall, Audrey Stewart, Briana Stewart, Ian Stewart and Drake Stewart, took top honors at the annual holiday event.
