High Country Squares graduate new members at Harvest Dance

Last week, the High Country Squares had a dance party to celebrate the graduation of seven new dancers into the club.

Our new club members have spent many months preparing and learning the steps and movements of modern square dancing. This past week was a recognition of their hard work and dedication. They have achieved a lot, not only learning to square dance but also learning about their own determination and perseverance. We are extremely proud of all our new members.

At last week’s Harvest Dance party our club had visiting dancers from Durango, Monte Vista, Alamosa and Hesperus. It was a delight to meet square dancers from other clubs who had read about our club in the SUN and traveled over Wolf Creek Pass to dance with us. The High Country Squares are making plans to travel and dance with these clubs also.

Square dancing is party time every time groups of dancers get together. It brings people together for fun, laughter, exercise, and fellowship. It’s a wonderful way to share common interests with other people and to escape the worry and pressures of today’s world.

The High Country Squares dance on Mondays at the PLPOA Clubhouse from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Callers from Durango, Cortez and Farmington will be rotating weeks during the winter months. There will be review of mainstream for the first hour, then some Plus review, followed by fun dancing. All experienced dancers are invited to attend. In December we are only dancing on the 1st and 15th due to availability of the hall and the holiday.
