Festival of Trees: Beauty and fun for a good cause

I know for the last several weeks I’ve written about the Festival of Trees every chance I had and, yes, I am trying to get people involved in this great event, to help benefit their local nonprofit of choice.

But, I would also like for everyone to come to the event and see the trees. Viewing is free, and it is such a spectacular experience — no two trees are the same, and with all the lights, it’s a Christmas Tree Parade just for you. It is the most beautiful sight you’ll ever see. It is truly magical.

The Festival of Trees is Dec. 5 and Kate Kelley, with present and former students, will head the entertainment for the evening.

Applications can be picked up at the community center on weekdays between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Decorating will take place Dec. 1-3 with the tree auction and silent auction on Friday, Dec. 5.

Any entity or individual may sponsor a tree, but proceeds must be designated to go to an Archuleta County non-profit organization. We encourage all clubs, groups and individuals to sponsor a tree. Our goal this year is to have at least 25 trees entered.

For information, call Janis Moomaw at 264-3010, Nancy Strait at 731-3427, or the community center at 264-4152.
