Become a Master Gardener, applications accepted now

The Colorado Master Gardener program in Pagosa Springs is taking applications until Dec. 1 for the spring 2009 class, which will be cooperatively taught between the Archuleta County and La Plata County Extension Office beginning Feb. 5 and running through April 16.

Those accepted to the program receive 11 weeks of training in plant care and have the opportunity to work with other gardeners from Pagosa Springs to volunteer in the community. Our classes are held in conjunction with Extension in La Plata County, with the majority of classes held in Durango. We are in session from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. with an hour for lunch.

Cost is $180 and includes two Colorado Master Gardener reference notebooks. Contact the Colorado State University Extension office in Pagosa Springs at 264-5931 for more information or an application.

Join 4-H today

Archuleta County 4-H is now ready for enrollment.

4-H is a community of young people, across America, learning leadership, citizenship, and life skills.

Here in Archuleta County, we are very excited to have such dedicated club and project leaders year after year. A few projects being offered this year include: Archery, Ranch Horse, Scrapbooking, Knitting and Quilting, Vet Science, Foods and Nutrition, Coin Collecting and much more.

Make plans now to attend 4-H open house Friday, Nov. 7. Open house is a prime opportunity to explore 4-H in general and check out more information concerning specific projects and clubs that will be represented. If you are interested in learning more about 4-H, then this is the place to be. There will be goodies for new members enrolling as well as 4-H merchandise for sale for all members and adults.

So, again, join us at the fairgrounds from 4-6 p.m. for a great time.

Red Books are here

The 2009 Integrated Resource Management Red Books are now available at the Extension Office for $5. These books contain gestation tables, death loss code, salving ease score, pasture usage, breeding and herd management information, tables and places to record information along with a yearly calendar and place for address or phone numbers.
