Express yourself through your adornment

Lizz Baldwin feels that it is wonderful to assist another with their own expression.

Be it beauty enhancement or personal totems, everyone has a way of expressing themselves through their adornment. Lizz earned a B.F.A. in metalsmithing and jewelry from the University of North Texas. She has created jewelry for clients such as Coldwater Creek, Sundance and J. Marco.

Lizz currently resides in Pagosa Springs and enjoys the serene landscapes that provide inspiration for her creative color combinations and the delightfully dynamic designs for which she is known. “Beading with Lizz Baldwin” is a workshop that will be held Saturday, Nov. 8, from 1-4 p.m. at the community center Arts and Crafts Room.

Cost is $35, plus materials. Call PSAC at 264-5020 to register.

Saturday Drawing with Randall Davis

The next Saturday Drawing Class led by Randall Davis will be held Nov. 15, from 9-3 p.m. at the community center Arts and Crafts Room.

In the course of this class, Randall will focus on drawing a barn and the correct perspective needed to complete the project.

The class is appropriate for all levels — beginners as well as advanced. You will leave the class with a completed drawing.

Cost is $35. Call 264-5020 to register.

“Into The Woods”

The Pagosa Springs Music Boosters’ holiday performances of “Into The Woods,” by Stephen Sondheim, will be a spectacular treat for the eyes and ears.

Hospital art sponsors welcome

The Pagosa Mountain Hospital Art Exhibit runs until Nov. 18. We continually encourage sponsors and donors to come forward. Donations from $1 and up are welcome and there are donation envelopes as well as a drop box at the hospital’s front reception area for your convenience.

Thank you for whatever amount you can donate in order to provide “healing art” for our hospital.

PSAC workshops

The Pagosa Springs Arts Council sponsors and manages workshops in the Arts and Crafts Room at the community center. From the outset, the Arts Council has been a partner and supporter of the center.

We started the workshops in 2002 and they have grown substantially since that time. Workshops provide those who want to teach a venue in which to do so and, at the same time, give our residents an opportunity to learn something new — watercolor, acrylic, oil, drawing, photography or the like. The space also provides a home for the Photo Club, Watercolor Club and a meeting location for various other clubs.

If you are interested in teaching a workshop or class, call the Town Park Gallery at 264-5020 for a workshop application form or download the form from our Web site, If you are a resident and have ideas and suggestions for a class or workshop we haven’t offered, let us hear from you. The Arts Council’s mailing address is: P.O. Box 533, Pagosa Springs, CO, 81147 or e-mail

To date, all of our workshops have been held during the day. Would evenings work better for you? Would you prefer a series of classes? If you would like to see the Arts Council offer workshops in either of these formats, call PSAC at 264-5020 and leave your name and number and we’ll touch base with you.

2009 workshop calendar

Please watch the Artsline for information regarding the new 2009 workshop calendar. All of the workshop classes are held in the Arts and Crafts Room of the community center.

Call PSAC at 264-5020 to register for any of the remaining 2008 classes. Classes may be paid by credit card at the time of registration to reserve your spot.

Please note: You must be pre-registered for all classes. If a class is cancelled, for some reason, we would have no way of contacting people who wish to drop in without a name and phone number on file.

Nov. 8 — Beading with Lizz Baldwin.

Nov. 15 — Saturday Drawing with Randall Davis. The class will be held from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. and you must pre-register.

Plein Air Painters

We have made a decision to combine the Watercolor Club and the Plein Air Painters of Pagosa. The new group will be called Plein Air Painters and will meet the third Thursday of the month at 10 a.m.

Painters who work in any media are welcome. It’s a wonderful opportunity to share, tips, ideas and resources.

With that in mind, the next meeting of Plein Air Painters will be Thursday, Nov. 20. If the weather cooperates, we will meet at the west end of Echo Reservoir off U.S. 84, several miles south of Pagosa. This is a great spot, with views in all directions. Dress appropriately and bring a lunch. If the weather is bad we will meet at 10 a.m. at the community center in the Arts and Crafts Room. Please keep in mind that turpentine-based painting materials can not be used in the center.

Contact Jean Shah for more information, at 264-0188 or e-mail at

Photography Club

The Pagosa Springs Photography Club will meet Wednesday Nov. 12 at 5:30 p.m. in the Arts and Crafts Room of the community center.

This month’s program will be a DVD presentation by Lisa Kristine, an amazing photographer who uses natural light much of the time to capture inspiring images of people and places. This is a great opportunity to discuss light and composition, as well as to be inspired by the beauty of her work. Please plan on attending and joining the discussion.

Monthly photo critiques are held during each club meeting. The critique theme category for this month is “Yellow.” Members may enter up to two prints and this month Vice President Barbara Conkey will lead the critique of photos. This will be done as a group, rather than with specific judges.

The Photography Club meets the second Wednesday of each month during the club year, from September through May. Interested photography enthusiasts are welcome to attend at no charge the first meeting. Any and all are invited to join for annual dues of $20 for single individuals and $30 for family membership.

For more information, contact Barbara Conkey at or 731-6877.
