Pagosa Springs Elementary School will host a Scholastic Book Fair Nov. 3-13 during school hours in the school library.
Families, teachers and the community are invited to attend the fair, which will feature a special theme: “Book Fair SAFARI — Go On a Trek for Fun Books!”
Many activities and special events at the school accompany the Book Fair and mirror the safari theme.
Parents are invited to a special preview of the Book Fair on Monday, Nov. 3, from 1-3 p.m. and cookies and tea will be served.
On Thursday, Nov. 6, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. the Partners In Education Committee (P.I.E.) will host a Safari Fun Family Night and invite all families to attend and enjoy an evening of entertainment, activities and crafts. Savannah spaghetti, safari salad, beastly bread and a special dessert will be served beginning at 5:30 in the Kilimanjaro Kafe during the family night experience.
A Book Fair Spirit Day has been set for Friday, Nov. 7. Students and staff are invited to dress in safari gear and go “Wacky Khaki with Miss Mackey!” To elaborate the safari experience, the wall in the hall near the library has been decorated with an image of an African savannah and the animals that love to read.
The elementary school has been hosting a Book Fair since 1982. The fall 2007 Book Fair netted the school more than $2,500 in cash, more than $475 in books and $160 in resource materials for the library.
Proceeds from fairs are used for reading and educational improvements and help fund the purchase of necessary unbudgeted supplies for the school. Last year, new shelving and cabinets were installed in the library in order to hold more books.
Individuals attending the events can also help build individual classroom libraries by purchasing books for teachers through the Classroom Wish List Program, which is highlighted at the Book Fair.
The Book Fair will offer specially-priced books and educational products, including newly-released titles, award-winning titles, children’s classics, beautiful hardback books, interactive software, and book titles from more than 150 publishers. There are products for all age ranges and many excellent gift ideas.
