Skate park design to be discussed

The second in a series of public meetings to discuss the design of a new community skate park is scheduled at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21, in the south conference room of the Pagosa Springs Community Center.

Brad Siedlecki, of Pillar Design Studios — the engineering firm hired by the town to design the new park — will give a presentation on several design alternatives that are based on public comments received during the first design meeting held in late September.

The design process for the new park will likely be completed by the end of the year, and if next year’s budget allows, the town will then pursue a grant from Great Outdoors Colorado to aid construction.

Anyone wishing to track the progress of the new community skate park can join the Pagosa Skate Park Blog and offer feedback.

To join the blog, go to and click on either “work” or “play.” Click on the “community involvement” link on the left side of the screen, and then click on “Click here to log into the Pillar Design Studios Blog.” When prompted for a log-in, use “pagosa,” and then enter “skatepark” as the password.

The theme for entries in the essay contest (grades 5-8) is also “Pick-up Pagosa Country.” Entries should explain why local litter prevention and/or recycling efforts are important and should follow these guidelines:
