Oktoberfest celebration Saturday

Ready or not, here comes our beautiful fall weather, bringing crisp, cool mornings and sunny days, red and golden aspen leaves, and best of all, one of Pagosa Springs’ most “funnest” social events of the year.

Our seventh annual Pagosa Springs Oktoberfest will take place 4:30-8:30 p.m. Saturday.

You don’t want to miss this event; you just can’t beat the delicious food you will be served. The menu includes genuine hot German Potato Salad, juicy bratwursts on a bun, Bavarian-style sauerkraut, a yummy dessert and refreshing lemonade, coffee or ice tea. You will also receive a commemorative glass beer stein, ready to be filled with your choice of root beer or a mighty fine micro-brewed beer. The children’s meal includes a hot dog, chips, dessert, and a non-breakable festive mug.

Feel free to wear your colorful Oktoberfest clothing and bring the whole family for dancing to the lively polka music provided by Pagosa’s very own Paukenschlagel Band. When your feet get a little tired from dancing, you can take a break and check out the wonderful items being offered in the silent auction. A live auction will take place later in the evening, with many items generously donated by our local merchants and friends. Some of the items you might take home with you with a winning bid include some gorgeous ladies’ high-end jewelry, a two-night stay at the Coyote Hill Lodge, two rounds of golf and a golf cart, and lots more.

Advance tickets can be purchased at a discount until noon Saturday at the Senior Center, the community center ,the Pagosa Springs Chamber of Commerce or The Plaid Pony. Tickets prices are: adults $20 advance purchase or $25 at the door; children $5 for ages 5-12 (under age 5, free); family rate of $40 advance purchase or $45 at the door; Archuleta Seniors Inc. members, $12 advance purchase or $15 at the door.

Beer will be sold for $3 and root beer and bottled water will be sold for $1.

The Oktoberfest is sponsored by Archuleta Seniors Inc., a non-profit organization that assists Archuleta County seniors in need with medical support (eyeglasses, dental care, hearing aids, etc.) and medical transportation, as well as with social, educational and cultural activities for all seniors age 55 and older. So, while you are having lots of fun, you will also be contributing to this very worthy organization. And, all donations are tax-deductible.

Many volunteers are working hard to make this a night to remember, so get your tickets early and get ready for some good fun.
