Registration for this year’s 7- and 8-year-old youth basketball league will begin Monday, Oct. 6, and run through Wednesday, Oct. 22.
Children who will be 7 or 8 years old as of Nov. 15 are eligible to register.
The 7-8 season is tentatively scheduled to begin in early November and will run through mid-December.
Registration forms will be available at the recreation office in Town Hall. Forms will also be available online in Adobe format at www.townofpagosasprings.com (click on the town departments link, then the recreation department link). Cost is $25 per player and $15 for each additional child in the same, immediate family who participates.
Please note that registration for the 9-10 and 11-12 divisions will begin in mid-November; the season for these divisions will not begin until early January.
Coaches and team sponsors for all divisions are needed and appreciated. Cost for sponsorship is $150, which includes sponsor’s name on team uniforms, commemorative plaque with team picture and recognition in media articles.

Soccer schedule changes
The following youth soccer games for the 9-10 division have been moved up an hour to avoid darkness:
Wednesday, Oct. 8 — Green vs. Maroon was originally scheduled for 6:15 p.m. on Field 1, but has been moved to 5:15 p.m. on Field 4.
Thursday, Oct. 9 — Red vs. Navy was originally scheduled for 6:15 p.m. on Field 4, but has been moved to 5:15 p.m. on Field 1.
Schedules for all youth soccer divisions have been posted in Adobe format on the recreation department link at www.townofpagosasprings.com and are also available at the recreation office upstairs in Town Hall. Schedules are also updated regularly on the sports hotline, 264-4151, Ext. 301.
Unless there is lightning, youth soccer games will not be canceled due to rain, so parents are reminded to ensure their children are dressed appropriately for games.

Registration for youth volleyball has closed and the season is set to begin Monday, Oct. 15, at the junior high school.
The 9-10 division will practice every Monday and Wednesday from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. through late November. The 9-10 season will consist of clinic-style sessions which will include drills, an introduction to game rules and scrimmages.
The 11-12 division will be divided into teams and practice Mondays and Wednesdays from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. early in the season, then play a live-game schedule during the latter half of the season.
Volunteer coaches are needed for the 11-12 division. If you are interested in being a head coach or assistant, contact Andy Rice, recreation supervisor, at 264-4151, Ext. 231.
Skate park blog
Anyone wishing to track the progress of the design for the new community skate park can join the Pagosa Skate Park Blog and offer feedback.
To join the blog, go to www.pillardesignstudios.com and click on either “work” or “play.” Click on the “community involvement” link on the left side of the screen, and then click on “Click here to log into the Pillar Design Studios Blog.” When prompted for a log-in, use “pagosa,” and then enter “skatepark” as the password.
The design phase for the new park should be complete by the end of the year, and the town will then pursue a grant from Great Outdoors Colorado which, if awarded, will enable the town to move forward with construction bids.
