Gloria B. Hand

Gloria Barbara Gertrude Hand passed away Jan. 1, 2008, in Albuquerque, N.M. She was born Feb. 11,1925, in London, Ontario, Canada.

Gloria was married to Robert Hand and had one son, Scott Hand , of Albuquerque. A longtime resident of Pagosa Springs, she and her family lived in the Blanco Basin and owned and operated the Thunderbird Lodge for a number of years. She later lived in Fairfield until the late 1990s, when she moved to Albuquerque.

She had a great sense of humor and a deep love and adoration for children and animals.

She is survived by her only son, Scott Hand, his wife, Wendy, and their family.

Opal ‘Babe’ A. Taylor

January 17, 1932 — January 25, 2008.

Babe was born in Des Moines, Iowa, and spent her life in Commerce City, Colo., with her husband of 56 years. She is survived by her husband, Howard C. Taylor, Jr.; her brother, Roy Atkinson, Denver; children: Jeannette Hamilton, Denver; Jennifer Bacon, Salina, Kan.; Joan Taylor, Denver; June Lacer, Denver; Howard Taylor III, Murphysboro, Tenn.; Robert Taylor, Lochbuie, Colo.; Janet Johnson, Pagosa Springs; also, 16 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

As per Babe’s request, no services were held.

Babe will be deeply missed for her generosity, her genuine love of fishing, camping and hunting, and for her “one-of-a-kind” craft work. We were all greatly blessed with Babe’s love, kindness, compassion and teachings, and her love of family and friends.


Jenna Finney

Jenna Finney, of Pagosa Springs, is listed on the 2007 fall semester dean’s list at the University of Portland.

Finney is a senior and majoring in Spanish.
Students need at least a 3.5 grade point average to make the dean’s list.


Ellen Niehaus and Shane Tuller

Dennis and Robin Niehaus, along with Claude and Toni Tuller, all of Pagosa Springs, would like to announce the upcoming marriage of their children. Ellen Niehaus and Shane Tuller are planning to be married in Pagosa Springs on July 19 of this year.
The couple will reside in Grand Junction, where Ellen is attending Mesa State College, and Shane is employed by Joe’s Wallboard and Supply.
