Celebrations

Pete and Valerie Bailey are blessed to announce the marriage of their daughter, Sarah Dawn, to Christopher Cole Regitz, the son of Joe and Judy Regitz of Austin, Texas. The ceremony took place at the Spirit Ranch in Lubbock, Texas, June 21, 2008. The young couple will continue to reside in Lubbock until God moves them elsewhere. We pray that God will continue to lead and guide them as they seek to serve Him.

It’s official ... the news is out: Jennifer LeAnn Hilsabeck and Jesse Dawson Bauer are engaged to be married.
Jennifer is the daughter of Jerry and Debi Hilsabeck. She is a 2006 graduate of Pagosa Springs High School and is currently working on her apprenticeship at the School of Cosmetology. 
 Jesse is the son of Paul and Carla Bauer. He is a 2005 graduate of Pagosa Springs High School  and currently working for Avalanche Wildfire. ”Together” we are all pleased to share the news of this special event to be held 08/08/08 in Pagosa Springs, on Reservoir Hill.

It was only a matter of time. With a new hospital opening in Pagosa Country this year, the clock was ticking on the birth of the first baby at the facility. It happened May 22. Josue Antonio Granados is the first child born at Pagosa Mountain Hospital. Josue was 6.8 lbs and 18.25 inches long. He is seen here with his mother, Ashlee Granados, and his brother Brian.

Eric and Heather Mesker would like to proudly announce the birth of their daughter, Remi Dae.  She was born June 14 at 2:26 a.m., weighing 7 lbs. She is welcomed by her maternal grandparents, Cal and Ruth Wells of Bowie, Texas, and paternal grandparents Mark and Michele Mesker of Pagosa Springs.

Staff Sgt. Steven Denny recently graduated the Air Force’s S.E.R.E. instructors’ training program. At the formal graduation, Denny was given the special award as distinguished graduate. S.E.R.E. stands for survive, evade, resist and escape. All military personnel who fly on a plane must attend class on these skills; Denny’s new job will be teaching this.
During his first six years in the Air Force, Denny did a tour in Iraq and spent three years in Japan. He has just re-signed for another six years and is now teaching in Spokane, Wash., where he lives with his wife, Beth, and their son, Kehan.
During his training, a film crew followed the group of 80 men and one woman while they learned and survived for nine months. A mini series titled “Survival School” will run on the MOJO cable channel this summer.
Denny is a graduate of Pagosa Springs High School, and his parents, Randall and Judy Denny, live in Arboles.

Schrader

Angela Schrader, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Baltazar Gallegos, Jr., was named to the Dean’s List for the spring 2008 semester at Sonoma State University in Santa Rosa, Calif. She ended the semester with a GPA of 3.75. Angela is a 2001 Pagosa Springs High School graduate. She will graduate from SSU in May 2009 with a business degree in strategic management.

Celebrations

Renee Davis, of Pagosa Springs, and Roy and Darla Johnson, of Aztec, N.M., announce the engagement of their daughter, Arlie Johnson, to Jesse Hankins, whose parents are Bruce and Sherri Hankins, of Durango, Colo., and Ginny and Steve Jones of Aztec, N.M.
The couple are to be wed July 19, 2008, in Durango. They will continue to live in Aztec, N.M.

Kenneth Lee Williams, Sr., married Christina Marie Prunty June 29, 2008, at 11:30 a.m. at the Archuleta County Courthouse. Proper ceremony to follow in the near future with their loved ones and friends.
Congratulations, Mr. and Mrs. Williams.

Kay and Warren Grams of Pagosa Springs will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary Saturday, June 28. The couple was married in Glen Cove, N.Y. They will enjoy the day Saturday with family and friends.

Lacy Rogers and Cody Bass will celebrate their wedding vows Saturday, June 28, at 2 p.m. on Reservoir Hill in Pagosa Springs.
Lacy is the daughter of Penny Harris and is a Pagosa Springs High School graduate. She will begin college classes this fall. 
Cody, son of Rick and Debbie Bass, graduated from Pagosa Springs High School and works for Bass Construction Company. Cody has a 5-year-old daughter, Kamerahn. All family and friends are invited to attend the wedding and the reception to be held afterwards at the Powerhouse at 5 p.m. Selections have been made at Wal-Mart and Linens and Things.

Rich Lucero and Lorrena Maez are proud to announce the birth of their second child, Gabriel Andres Dominic Lucero. He was born in Aurora, Colo., March 28, 2008, weighing 6 pounds and 15 1/2 ounces. He was welcomed with lots of love.
Grandparents are Violet and Mariano Echavarria, Hector Salazar and Marlene and Henry (Melanie). Aunts are Tina, Debbie and Holly. Uncles are Jason and Dale. Cousins are Dominic and Jayce.

Patrick Martin Lomasney, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Lomasney of Pagosa Springs, received his degree in chemistry from the University of Washington in Seattle, Friday, June 13, 2008.

Lezlie Dawn Powers and Andrew Jake White announce that they are to be married July 12, 2008. Lezlie grew up in Boulder, Colo., where she attended Fairview High School. Jake spent his formative years preparing for the love of his life in his hometown of Las Vegas, Nev., where he attended Durango High School. The proud parents of Lezlie, Guy and Sabra Bogart, currently reside in Brighton, Colo. The equally proud parents of Jake, John and Beth White, reside in Bayfield, Colo. Together, Lezlie and Jake will hold a private wedding ceremony with a luncheon reception to follow in Pagosa Springs. The couple met through the Archuleta County Sheriff’s Department where both are proudly employed and dedicated to their law enforcement careers. The pair shares a wide range of hobbies that will provide them with an endless array of promising memories. They will live in Pagosa after the wedding with their two, four-legged children.

Chris and Michele Smith and Curt and Lynell Wiggers, both of Pagosa Springs, are pleased to announce the marriage of their children, Kailey Marie Smith and Kyle James Wiggers.
The ceremony took place Sunday, June 1, at Winslow on the Shire, and the very happy couple are now living in Colorado Springs.


Zachary Cooper Ketchum was born May 19, 2008, at Mercy Regional Medical Center, to Zachary and Lisa Ketchum. He was 7 pounds, 11 ounces, and was 19 inches long.
Grandparents are Judy and Galen Hromas, of Bovina, Texas, and Clyde and Adelia Ketchum, of Pagosa Springs.


Finney

Jenna Finney of Pagosa Springs recently graduated from the University of Portland with a bachelor’s degree in Spanish.

University president, Rev. E. William Beauchamp, C.S.C., conferred 607 bachelors’ and 162 masters’ degrees during the commencement exercises held Sunday, May 4, 2008, in the Earle A. and Virginia H. Chiles Center on the University of Portland campus.

Sharp

Colorado Timberline Academy has announced that Alex Sharp, son of Doug and Jamie Sharp of Pagosa Springs, has been named to the Academic Honor Roll for Block 6 of the current school year. The Honor Roll distinction specifies that a student must have a 3.0 grade point average with nothing below a B for an academic bloc, a period of four or five weeks. There are seven blocs in the school year.

Talbot

Charmaine J. Talbot, an Eastern New Mexico University student and a graduate of Pagosa Springs High School, is among the 504 students on the 2008 springs semester Dean’s Honor Roll.

To be eligible for the Dean’s Honor Roll, students must complete a minimum of 15 hours for the semester and maintain a 3.25 GPA.

Larry and Virginia (Ginnie) were married on June 12, 1948, in Richmond, Va.  After retiring from the U.S. Army in 1969, Larry and Ginnie owned and operated a flight school in El Paso, Texas. Larry also served as a corporate pilot and FAA-designated examiner. Ginnie was active as an artist and served as president of the El Paso Art Association for many years. Retiring from these activities, they moved to Pagosa Springs in the summer of 1983. The couple have three children, eight grandchildren and five (soon to be six) great-grandchildren. They are active in the Pagosa Bible Church.

Amber Nichole Beye, the daughter of Scott and Denise Beye, has been accepted into the Peace Corps. She departed for Tanzania on June 7 to become a village-based extension facilitator volunteer. Beye’s work will include environmental education and sustainable agriculture in rural communities as well as HIV/AIDS education and awareness. A graduate of Pagosa Springs High School, she attended Colorado State University in Fort Collins and earned a bachelor of arts in sociology as well as a minor in English history while studying abroad in Keele, England. Beye previously worked on the tree and flower crew at CSU and was an intern at the Northern Colorado AIDS project in Fort Collins. After serving in the Peace Corps she intends to seek a master’s in medical anthropology.

Bob, Jen, Amanda and Will Brown welcome Karina Sue, born May 22, 2008, at Mercy Medical Center in Durango, weighing 7 pounds, 2 ounces and 19 inches long.

Robert and Sara Kirkham are proud to announce the birth of Keagan Marshall Kirkham in Colorado Springs, Colo., at 2:32 a.m., Friday, April 11, 2008. He weighed 8 pounds and was 20 inches long.
Proud grandparents are Bill and Jane Downey and Dot Kirkham, and the late Jimmie Kirkham, all of Pagosa Springs. Great-grandparents are Elmer and Bessie Downey of Pueblo, Colo., Betty Guy of Bethune, Colo., and Bobbie Kirkham of Cleveland, Texas.

Dawn Marie Olson, of Pueblo, Colo., graduated cum laude from Colorado State University in Pueblo, with a bachelor of arts in psychology, Saturday, May 3, 2008. Dawn is a member of the Pagosa Springs High School graduating class of 1994.
She is the daughter of Lucy R. Gonzales of Pagosa Springs.

Morris

Jesse Morris, a graduate of Pagosa Springs High School, has been named to the Dean’s List at Colorado College for the 2007-2008 academic year, where he is majoring in International Environmental Policy, with minors in Asian Studies and Non-Violence.  He continues his work with music and the performing arts as Musical Director of CC’s a capella vocal group Room 46, performing with school, local bands and orchestras on percussion, and piano studies.  He is currently doing a summer internship with an environmental leadership training organization, GreenCorps, in San Francisco.


Kirkham

James Kirkham, of Pagosa Springs, is listed on the 2008 winter semester Dean’s List at Ft. Lewis College in Durango. He was also listed on the 2007 spring and winter semesters’ Dean’s List.

Kirkham has completed 15 or more credit hours and earned at least a 3.6 grade point average.

He is the son of Dot Kirkham and the late Jimmie Kirkham of Pagosa Springs.
